What Is Wild Honeycomb?
Honeycomb is the most natural form of honey. It consists of a series of hexagonal cells constructed from beeswax which contain raw honey. Honeycomb may also contain some bee pollen, propolis, and royal jelly.
The most important criterion of the quality of honey is “the wild honeycomb” called “karakovan” in Turkish. That is, the bees do everything themselves up to their honeycomb and are not fed by the producer with sugar and the like. Bees feed on only natural flowers. For this purpose, beehives are transported from one natural place to another by the beekeeper. Thus, it is provided that bees can feed on a much wider natural area. The honeycombs obtained is delivered to the consumer only by packaging without any processing.
Organic Wild Honeycomb
Organic honey production has many requirements. Organic beekeeping is controlled and licensed by the government and international organizations.
The territory where organic beekeeping takes place must have a 3- kilometer diameter for flying. Organic and conventional beekeeping cannot be practiced at the same time on the same territory.
Since the hive is a portable bee family shelter, all areas to be moved must be suitable for organic production. Beekeeping is not possible in conventional crop production areas. Stressful methods aren’t used during the transport of bees. Chemical control methods cannot be used in beekeeping area. These are some main requirements for organic wild honeycomb. Organic wild honeycomb is produced under difficult conditions in hard-to-reach areas for the purpose of protecting natural life, maintaining natural foods and growing healthy generations.
